Baby-Wearing
What is "Baby-Wearing"?
It has been
said that all a mother needs to care for her baby are her arms, her
breasts, and her sling. I couldn't agree more! I can't imagine how I
ever managed to lug around that big infant seat 5 years ago. Everywhere
I went, there it was with me, complicating everything. Especially those
times when my daughter refused to humor me by staying in it!
There was a
lot of buzz getting started then about all the benefits of baby massage.
It had finally been proven that being in physical contact with your
baby created physiological benefits! Go figure. Again, tribal mothers
had been doing the very best all along before modern science scared
us into believing that our children would be spoiled brats if we gave
them too much love and affection. These findings have helped to further
validate the attachment parenting philosophy.
Babies were
not meant to be bundled. Babies were made to be carried by their mothers.
And mothers' hips were made to carry her babies! Newborns were not designed
with the ability to regulate their own heat because it was God's intention
for it to be regulated by the mother.
