Why Cloth Diaper?
My friend's challenge:
Tell me again why I should buy cloth diapers. The piles of laundry I already have haunt me! What will I do with the added laundry? What's so wrong with disposables??
My answer:
1- Trees: Cotton is much more easily replaced. We need trees to keep repairing the holes in the ozone so we can all breathe in 50 years.
2- Landfills: While I'm not convinced cloth is better for the environment considering all the water that's used in washing them, I compare that to the production of the disposables. They cancel out. But then there's the landfill issue. Disposables are still worse.
3- Money: You can save a considerable amount of money, especially if you use the kind that grow with your baby, and even more if you get them used from an online auction!
4- Money (again): Especially if you get prefolds with some covers, you'll save a TON of money!!!
5- Time: You don't have to make late night runs to Wal*Mart when you run out of disposables
6- Your baby!!!: You know how awful those chemicals are that keep your baby "dry". And you know they don't really stay DRY at all! It's just a different wetness that makes a ton of messy little gel balls at best. At worst you have to get prescription steroid cream for the raw and bleeding rash on that poor helpless (screaming) baby.
7- Your baby (again): Cloth feels better! Just think of how awful those little paper outfits at the doctor's office feel. Now picture that between your legs 24/7.
8- Your baby (I didn't really expect you to care about the environment! LOL): His skin will be able to breathe.
9- Your sanity: He will be more aware of his bodily happenings which is respectful of him and will make it much easier to potty train him!!
10- They contain messes just as well... or better!!
11- You can stop fighting with that diaper genie!
12- It will get the rest of your laundry done. After all, you're already standing there at the washer and dryer!
13- They're CUTE!: Whether fitteds or just the covers for prefolds... oh my do they get cute!
THAT'S WHY!!
Now go buy some!
