I made this sling as an "accessory" to my outfit that I'm wearing to a wedding next week. These pouch slings are really easy to make, it took me less than an hour. http://www.sleepingb.../tubesling.html or.. watch this video http://www.youtube.c...h?v=HW9m_8w_btc

You look so young, at first I thought it must be one of your children! Love the dress too, adorable.

Janney's dress is lovely! It hangs so nice on her and I love the cut of the skirt and the style of the bodice. Great job.

I like the sling. How well would a sling like that work for a new baby? I've been thinking about getting a sling but I don't really know what works well for a young infant. I want something that supports the infant well and supports their head so I don't have to use one hand to do that. It defeats the purpose of the sling for me. Maybe I'll start another topic on sling types and recommendations.

Good job!

One of the comments I read when making this new pouch sling was about the width.. the suggested width is 20-24 inches - and NOT MORE.. for fear of baby not fitting in well.

So, because mine is for a big baby - I made mine 24 inches... but if Elias was a little, and I was holding him in a cradle hold, mine would be too big, there's too much fabric.. so.. YES, this sling would hold baby in a nice upright, inclined cradle hold with no hands.. .. BUT.. you want to make sure you're width is 20 inches.. and the other measurement is from shoulder to hip.. make sure you don't make that a generous measurement, make it tight.

Then watch this youtube http://www.youtube.c...h?v=2CvGggmgxoE and http://www.youtube.c...h?v=2XD4Nascz8o to see how a little baby is warn

Hi! Beautiful sewing! What kind of fabric did you use for the wrap?

I've used the sling for my girls--"thank God they've been small". I really like the sling, holding them close since birth. They've been carried EVERYDAY close to mom. However, as nice as that is for me and them, I've suffered from my left shoulder-where the sling hangs. I'm grateful that the sling isn't hard on the back. I'm I over doing it? doing it different? Does anyone else experience something similar? any opportunity and I get someone to massage my shoulders.

i use a version of the mei tei sling, i think that's what it's called...anyway, the material spreads over my shoulder, thus not putting pressure on it...works well.

Tried this type of sling at a mommies group a few weeks ago.. soooo simple! http://www.bluecelery.com/

System is two loops you put on across your body.. tuck babe in, then there's a colourful sash you tie around the baby's bottom just to secure. It's almost like wearing a t-shirt.

My shoulders hurt too Francesca, I have inflamed rotator cuff (supraspinitis) in both shoulders... but that's from holding baby to nurse.. even if I'm not slinging I get it. I use Arnica and Massage Therapy and Chiro care to manage it. I have heavy babies Elias is 21lbs 2 oz.. .. one of my smaller babies at 8 months

Definitely a beautiful accessory! :) You'll be the most stylish baby-wearing mama there.

My baby is just a little younger than yours. He was born on Sept. 1. I've been trying to wear him on my back, but he's still not used to it. Once I take him off and put him in front again, he falls right to sleep. I'd like to try to get him used to being on my back because it's easier to sit my 3 year old on my lap without the baby on my front too.

Have you tried wraps?

Lol.. the most stylish babywearer.. LOL.. I was the ONLY baby wearer.. There were two other babies.. who's mama's had tired arms because we all three were standing at the end of the wedding.

I have 5 different types of carriers right now.. and I've had 4 others over the years. I am so glad I have never spent much money on a sling/carrier because I can lose them fairly easily too. I've had friends make them, I've made my own based on what I've seen of other people's.

When I wear Elias on my back, I use a high back mei-tie mostly.. let me see if I have a photo.

see.. this is me folding my laundry in my room, on my bed.

See.. his head is tipped back.. he's asleep.. but his back is fully supported by the mei-tie

Hey Freida! My baby was born the same day as yours and I wear her on my back. I use an Onbuhimo that I made myself, it's a lot like a mei tie but it has rings at the bottom instead of straps. She loves it and I can do anything while wearing her. :_biggrin: I tried using my wrap for the back carry but I didn't feel safe because she throws herself back forcefully and the fabric slipped down. With the onbu the fabric stays up (over my shoulders like Sombra's pic) and she's nice and secure.

That's so neat! Did you joke around for awhile the REAL reason for Labor Day? My kids did..."Guess what my mom did on Labor Day? She labored, of course! And that's how we got a new baby brother!" LOL

I'm glad you shared about the onbu. I have a mei tai that I used when my 3 year old was a baby, but haven't even thought about taking it out because I was thinking the baby was too young still. The kids love to wear the baby and can do it without help with the mei tai so I'm definitely going to take it out tomorrow.

You know how you get attached to something and nothing else will do. My didy is so dear to me that I have neglected all my other wraps and carriers. Well, I only have a few so it's not too tragic. :)
