I know this is a swap board, but I'm wondering if anyone has any of her books to either, sell, trade or swap.

A friend of mine found some of Ina May's books at the local thrift store; have you found the books you are looking for? If not, have you tried used book stores, second hand shops, etc. I have been amazed at what I have found there. I found the book Open Season a year or two ago as well as Elizabeth Noble's book Essential Exercises for the Childbearing Years. My friend found Laura Shanley's Unassisted Childbirth at the library book sale and a friend found the VHS of Gentle Birth Choices and Special Delievery for me...literally...like under a dollar! I am always keeping my eyes open for deals. I even found an UC/homebirth book at the Ivy Tech online bookstore...so you never know where you will uncover these gems. Good luck.

How is your pregnancy going?

Yeah, I've heard about other people's great finds, but I rarely get out to shop around like that so I have to make due with what I can find on the net!

The pregnancy is going...little one's moving around, I'm seeking to continue to eat right...I just realized by reading a pregnancy book that the loss of our second son to still birth was my fault for not eating right. I was ignorant at the time, but still...I hadn't realized that before. From now on, I'm eating as if I'm pregnant, about to be pregnant or nursing so my body will be prepared!

Why do you think that his stillbirth was your fault for not eating right? That is a really heavy load of blame to shoulder. Honestly, nutrition during pregnancy is very important, but remember...only God knows the number of our days. There are women who eat bad...really, really bad...and have healthy babies...and other women who do everything 'right' and have problemetic outcomes. I think it is prudent to treat your body if you could be pregnant if you are in your childbearing years, but please, please, please....don't blame your diet for your baby boy's death. {{hugs}} If you don't mind..what book was it that made you think that??

Oh, it's okay. I don't feel guilty over it. God healed me from the heartbreak his death caused so for me it's not a bad thing to say that. I just read that anencephaly and spina bifida are related to a lack of folic acid in a mother's diet. It's common knowledge. That's what he had along with club feet. At the time I had already had two babies with hardly any break. I didn't know how important breast feeding was or exactly what to eat. I was ignorant. Now I know and looking back I see that for my body, nutrition is VERY important. So now I'm eating much better (green leafies, fruit, salmon, etc.) and also breast feeding is a must. I'm okay. :D Thanks for being concerned though. I think it was in the Mayo Clinic pregnancy book that talked about the birth defects associated with low folic acid. I don't feel any guilt over it, it's just a lesson learned.

ETA:If I did have blame and shame and guilt all I'd have to do was take it to the cross and leave it there 'cause Jesus died for that too! :D His blood covers everything!!! He's so awesome!!!!

I loved parts of one of her books before I got pregnant. I never finished the whole thing though.

Now I am reading it again and I find some parts to be very unholy. I can't say it's that way on a whole, because I didn't get too far before it slapped me right in the face. I do not know if I will continue reading the book or not. I need to pray on that.

I will say her first book, Spiritual Midwifery was sort of new-agey.

Her most recent birthing book, Ina May's Guide to Childbirth is not like that and I found it to be uplifting, informative and encouraging to read just before my last birth.

Would you be able to share what you found unholy about it?

I have Ina May's Spiritual Midwifery book and found it a great book. Yes, it is new agey but I was thankful for the info in it.
When i read books I take the good and leave the bad. I know what I believe and I can read this book and glean from the info I need for my birth and leave the rest. It didn't affect my faith or lead me astray but it did provide me with much needed info that I still refer to again and again.. :)

Soon, okay.

I'll tell you what was the biggest hep to me was the encouragement to stay as up right as possible.
( I know many don't). But for me it has been instrumental. She includes illustrations of primitive peoples
and how they support the laboring woman and how they make a rope that the mother can hold from and hang.
This really helped in my first UC!

That's in the Spiritual Midwifery one? I thought I saw that in the Guide too. I was hoping she'd talk more about The Farm with the statistics and everything in the Midwifery one...

I also want her new breastfeeding one...

I like her book, and the Farm is actually about 45 minutes from my house although I've never been. :) I wanted to do some pre-natal visits there, but you had to commit to having the baby there too which I didnt want to do.

Anyway....my 2 cents on the "unholiness" about the book........if thats how you spell it,...I found that I didnt like the common words used like the vagina is called the "p" word, and a bowl movement is called the "s" word. I dont say that stuff and don't like to read it. Just my 2 cents though. There was more stuff too,...I just cant think of it now.

:)
