I am just really suprised at how incredibly hungry I am lately. Ravenous. I guess after the icky feelings the first few months my system is starting to really feel alive again. Does anyone else turn into a chowhound in the second trimester?

except this woman bydesign.. http://www.dadsnutri...9B496DD4B1B4DC0 she seems to think women shouldn't eat more. And there's a woman at my old church who kept telling me.. every time I got pregnant, that she only put on 12 pounds in her pregnancy, that the Dr told her to limit herself to 12 lbs, and she did.. UGHH!

The article was a bit confusing. I mean, I get their point about not making pregnancy a feast day, every day.... but the final lines mentioned that some women would need help having access to fresh fruits and veggies, (duh...growing a human!) I wish people would just use common sense, get daily activity of some sort, sunshine, adequate rest...and eat a balanced, healthy diet. Babies in utero go through growth spurts...so it makes sense that some days women will intuit different things. If a woman was doing these things and only gained 12 lbs that is one thing... but women used to to go to dangerous lengths to limit their weight gain in times not too far past. Babies and mothers suffered for it and even died. How did you handle this situation with the woman at your church, Sombra??
edited to add... my diet isn't always the healthiest, but I do make a much more concerted effort during pregnancy when I am growing the building blocks for another person's livelihood. I make different choices, but healthier.... I don't limit..but I do try to be wise. This is in contrast to some earlier pregnancies where I didn't exercise such wisdom. Big difference in how I feel and cope with pregnancy, fwiw.

In the beginning of this pregnancy I was really concerned and worried about weight gain after having lost so much before the pg but I realized I am pg and need to eat as good as I can and just enjoy this time. So yes, I have gained but it hasn't been a worry once I put my scale away and went by how I feel. I don't always eat everything healthy. I allow myself sweet treats here and there but I try to not overdo it as I did in other pg's. I haven't gotten much exercise this pregnancy but I still feel better than I have in pg in years! :)

It's sad that people focus on weight instead of wellness and real food. No one encourages people to get obese and unhealthy, but I still would rather err on the side of making sure all the nutrients my baby needs are freely circulating in the blood stream. :D
If you double the amount of processed junk you eat during pregnancy.... duh... it isn't good for mom or baby. But eating more of the wonderful things God made for us to eat, like fruit and veggies and good fats and clean meat... there is no downside. If you are hungry, then you should eat!

Oh Jenni, I'm a Love them where they're at kinda person. I Listen, Smile says "WOW" and keep to my own path. This is the same couple who, after Janney was born and upon me saying I wanted more, jokingly threatened to take Stuart out behind the woodshed to "Fix him with my Swiss Army Knife".. I laughed that off, but the other quiverful family in the congregation didn't laugh, they were very offended... That joke was made many many times, enough to tick me off, but not let him get my goat, I'd come home and rant to Stuart about what a ##### he is. (I can't say it, he's an Elder, your supposed to respect your Elders right.. )
(By the way, this is the same Elder who didn't like the boys long hair, and wouldn't let Trent take the Bar Mitzvah class until he cut his hair. So Trent got his hair cut .. they came her to take care of my kids while I was in hospital having Asher.. so they went to town and Trent got his hair cut - Hypocrite, His wife has short hair!!!!)

Honestly, I was really concerned when I started out this pregnancy but I have relaxed. I don't think I've gained much at all ( not sure but doubt anymore than 5-8 lbs @ 14 weeks) and there have been days I ate a lot. However, I have been really good about sweets being minimal. I am sticking closely with proteins. I make sure I feel satisfied. I know detoxing from several things before pregnancy really helped! I lost ten plus pounds the month before conception unintentionally by just bettering my diet.
I don't think I will stress over gains of a 25 pound increase and hoping to not top 35. :P
I really can't imagine only gaining 12-20 pounds in a pregnancy.
