I am doing second UC, had 5 midwife attended births. This is baby #7 - #5 was UC post Katrina in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.

Also doing UP. I have had one prenatal when I thought we were going to be using a midwife, but we just didn't 'click' and there were other issues.

AFA my question: I believe my placenta is posterior as I feel baby all out front. But I have only heard it two times. I have a very hard locating it. I am 27 weeks. I can hear baby's HB no problem with just my cheap stethescope. I did hear the placenta about 3 days ago tho. That was the first time hearing it since about around 19-21 weeks.

My concern is I heard it at the bottom, to the right and left of the cervix and covering it. The first time I heard it I heard it on the bottom right. I have not heard it since. Could it just be completely on the back wall and not a complete previa? I know that they echo and it's sometimes hard to determine where the placenta is. when I had my one prenatal with MW before deciding on UC, we both heard it with the doppler on top right side.

After that I heard the cord and followed the sound of the cord to the bottom right where it stopped, but I didn't heard the whoosh of the placenta.

Also, baby is not big enough to completely cover the placenta, I would think anyway, that I should have such a hard time hearing it, is it?

If you think you have a placenta previa there will be other signs..bleeding and spotting after intimacy or just for no reason at all..also placenta previa in most cases remedies itself as your pregnancy progresses. The placenta moves on up and out of the way.

Wow, you can hear the cord and follow it? You are way ahead of me on this one!

No bleeding or spotting. Some brownish discharge on a pantyliner now and then. never had that in preg before. but never worn pantyliners in preg before either. i have read that it isn't uncommon for no signs of previa til around 37wks.

Are you positive that it's the placenta down there and not the big veins that run in the same spot? http://catalog.nucle...rdsRaw=&TL=&A=2
I've never heard my placenta and from what I have heard it's pretty normal not to. If your placenta is on the back I don't think you could hear it at all without a doppler. If the MW found it with the doppler on the top right then I would assume that I was not hearing the placenta at all because it's just not going to be on the back, the top, the sides and the bottom. If she found it up there then it's up there and you are probably hearing your arteries. Posted Image

I had placenta previa with one of my pg and also research of others with previa it does usually show up way before the end of pg. I had brownish discharge also which turned to red..
But as is the case with most cases of placenta previa the placenta moved up and out of the way. And no more blood.

If you are really worried about it for your birth you might consider having it checked out with a midwife or OB somewhere...

Thanks for responding ladies :D

I know what the placenta sounds like, it's the woosh woosh sound ;) In previous preg I have heard the placenta along a great length as they aren't small. But seeing as I can't hear it again there, I"m leaning more toward it was an echo. Last preg I could hear it on the left when it was on the right side. Just weird for me that I can't hear it this time around like the others.

It was so neat when I found it the other day though... I heard the HB and possibly cord and placenta all at once.

Just to make it clear the arteries make a "woosh woosh" sound too.
