I am 33 weeks and 4 days now. Hayden is growing and I am huge (as described by myself, my hubby and random strangers).
My diabetes has been rather stuborn to respond to treatment with insulin. However PRAISE GOD yesterday I had a fasting of 80 and two days last week in the 90's (90 or less is the goal). I am sleeping better with my blood sugar being less high so that is definately another reason to praise!
The OBs that I am using have been wonderful thus far, so much better that I anticipated. The continually say their goal is to partner with us for the birth we desire and they are being very cautious and keeping an extra close watch on the baby because the diabetes has been so difficult to control. Since we are driving an hour for car we will go to the new hospital in that community and it is phenominal ... volunteer doulas, jacuzzi's in the labor rooms, brith balls birth stools and many other useful tools available on request. I have been there twice for antepartum monitoring and the staff all seem to like being there and happy to help you.
Basically from what the doctors have told me and all that I have read the less controled the diabetes is the more risk to the baby including higher incident of still birth, shoulder dystocia or birth injury related to his shoulders and abdomen growing too fast and posing risk to get "stuck". So at this point they are checking in on him twice a week with NST- not so much fun for mommy since I have to drive 1 hour to the office. And once a week a quick ultrasound to check the fluid levels and seeing the doctor each visit to check on insulin adjustments. Last week my fluid level on u/s was at "18" and 20 is the concern mark. I don't totally know what that means- need to research it more.
I had an appointment yesterday for a NST and to see the doctor to check my blood sugar log and adjust the insulin. Well Hayden was not reactive on the NST so I ended up at the hospital for extended monitoring and an ultrasound for biophysical profile. In the end they said that the baby is as healthy as can be at this point and I got to come home.
On ultrasound last week he is measuring big- 5lbs 3oz at 32 weeks and 4 days. (The national average is to be off a pound either way on weight by u/s BUT the internal review for the tech that did mine is to be off by ounces). So by u/s he gained approximately 2 lbs in 3 weeks. At that point he measured in the 70th percentile overall and his abdominal size in the 98th percentile (percentiles mean that he is that percentage larger than the average baby at that gestational age).
If he were to go on to gain a pound a week I would be in trouble LOL.... but time will tell and I am trusting God to allow him to be born vaginally and very healthy.
They told me that they will want him here by his due date because of the diabetes and if the diabetes continues to be poorly controlled they may have to look into induction at 36 or 37 weeks. Depends on how baby is - ie is he showing any signs of distress.
Praise God over the last week I have had some of the best blood sugar readings since I started checking 4 times daily so I pray that control is coming and that Hayden is being protected from any ill effects.
I covet your prayers for God to protect Hayden's health thru these final weeks and for a sucessful vaginal deliver with out medications. No meds has always been my goal but I did not make it without an epidural on the previous 2. I feel more ready this time as we have taken a Bradley class to help prepare and I feel like I am in a better place mentally and emotionally as well as in a different place spiritually.
Thanks for listening :)

Currently 35 weeks and 1 day along. Blood sugar is wishy washy but not terribly high. Actually a mixed blessing because continuing difficulty managing the diabetes indicates that the placenta is healthy and functioning (the hormones contribute to the difficulty regulating the blood sugar).
Due to have an ultrasound to check his size on Thursday 13th. Praying that God continues to guide his perfect growth and development.
I have dropped a good bit and having some mucus discharge. Baby is hiccuping frequently- so breathing exercises are in progress for him. I just keep telling him to practice breathing and when he is ready feel free to start the show.
My desire is an unmedicated vaginal birth that is initiated by the baby and not the doctor or medicine.
Prayers are needed for our family... a lot of stress with a terminally ill mother, a 6 year old son that is struggling immensely with anxiety and adhd and new job for my husband. A long year and a half of exteneded financial problems- so many praises to God for the new fulltime job- you know how it is starting something new and new routines.... it is intensified when more than one in the house struggles with anxiety issues.

I hope that things continue to go well with your diabetes and the medical management of the pregnancy. I know that it brings along an entire set of circumstances to deal with apart from any additional life stress with family, finances, etc. Prayers for a healthy outcome for you and your sweet baby :flowers:
