Curricula

While this is not meant to be a complete listing of curricula it is a good start and can be a great help in getting you started! Both Christian and Secular curricula are listed. With a few very special exceptions, only complete curricula are listed because there's just not room for everything on our servers!

A Beka: Traditional Christian curriculum with complex lesson plans taken straight from teachers' manuals where they are used in private schools in Pensacola, Florida. Many parents scale lessons down ahead of time to fit their homeschooling needs.

Alpha Omega: Christian publisher of 3 different curriculum styles, plus an umbrella school via the internet. 1- Weaver is their unit study program. Very hands-on with units based on the bible. Six-year course that is then repeated with higher level work. Very good for teaching different age levels at the same time. 2- Lifepacs are their workbook method. 10 Lifepacs per subject per year. Some instruction required. Horizons work along with Lifepacs as an alternative means of presenting Reading and Math until 3rd grade. 3- Switched-On-Schoolhouse (SOS) is their CD-ROM curriculum which starts in 3rd grade. Use exclusively for self-guided learners, or in combination with Lifepacs for other subjects. Alpha Omega curriculums are available from the Christian UC Store

Ambleside Online: A *FREE* six-year, Christian curriculum using the Charlotte Mason (living books) method, complete with their own email discussion list!

Bob Jones Press: From the Bob Jones University, haters of Catholics and people who date outside of their own caucasian, black, or asian race. Their traditional curriculum is very much like A Beka's, minus the print quality. Before purchasing from them I would encourage you to do a web search on their beliefs. As the caucasian wife of a black man, I personally am unable to support those who are so hostile towards me. They are listed here for those who will not have a problem with that, and for people who are wanting to compare styles.

Calvert School: One of the original umbrella schools for homeschoolers, Calvert's secular curriculum follows the traditional format for grades Kindergarten through 8.

Core Knowledge: Resources and lesson plans to be used in association with the "What Your _th Grader Needs To Know" series of books.

Elijah Company: Whether you'd like to build your own curriculum using books they sell or not, the articles in their catalog make it a *must-have* for both novice and veteran homeschoolers!

Five In A Row: Literature-based unit studies usable for ages 2-12 & up. Supplements include a cookbook, Bible study and "Reading Made Easy". Website includes message board for users.

K12 Online Home Schools: Offering tuition-free home-based public schooling in California, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Minnesota, Ohio and Pennsylvania, the traditional curriculum is available for purchase in all states for grades K-5.

Konos: Very hands-on biblically-based unit studies approach following the "5 D's" - Do, Discover, Dramatize, Dialogue, and Drill.

Power-Glide: Foreign Language courses for Children that teaches in a way that makes it easy to use conversationally. Not just rote vocabulary and rules memorization! Various activities using the workbooks and CD's or cassettes get students of all ages using the language from the first lesson. Languages offered are Spanish, German, French, Latin, Russian and Japanese. Purchases made through links on the Christian UC website will earn Christian UC a generous commission and help to support it's mission.

Robinson: Full 12-year self-teaching curriculum on 22 CD-ROMs for less than $200 includes shipping and a coupon for 20% Saxon Math which is not covered on the CD's. (These claims are based on the information displayed on their homepage at the time of this page's creation and are not guaranteed by Christian UC. Check out the link for the latest info!)

Saxon: The same popular curriculum used by both public and private schools is also used by many homeschoolers to supplement some curriculums or methods that don't offer a specific math course.

School of Tomorrow: Like A Beka, Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) can function as an umbrella school after completing placement testing through Lighthouse Christian Academy and getting an individualized curriculum, or you may also choose your own placement with their Lifepac-like workbooks called PACEs.

Sonlight: Very eclectic literature-based curriculum tailored to meet your needs in four or five days a week that offers an 8 week trial.
